Football League

£2.50 open to reasonable offers

Signed Available

Newcastle United official matchday magazine v Oldham Athletic (Vol 3 No 2), with a full first-team squad photograph on the cover. Look closely at the sky above the players' heads and you'll find four or five handwritten autographs in blue ink - plausibly a matchday signing session, with names suggesting Kelly, Davies and Cartwright among the possibilities. None are conclusively identified and the set is unauthenticated, so the close-up photographs are there for you to make your own judgement.

FA Cup Final Replay

£30 open to reasonable offers

Available

Programme for the 1970 FA Cup Final Replay between Chelsea and Leeds United at Old Trafford, 29 April 1970, published by Manchester United as the host club. The replay - one of the most famously brutal finals in English football history - drew a record television audience of some 28 million, but far fewer fans made the trip north than had been at Wembley, so this edition had a much smaller print run than the original Wembley final programme and is the one collectors chase.

Friendly (Souvenir Match)

£2.50 open to reasonable offers

Available

Souvenir programme for the friendly between Celtic and Manchester City at Hampden Park, Tuesday 4 August 1970, played in front of a crowd of over 62,000. Note the pre-decimal one-shilling cover price. A previous owner has written '74' in blue ink on the cover, but the fixture is firmly dated to August 1970.

FA Cup 2nd Round Replay

£3 open to reasonable offers

Workington Reds v Chesterfield, FA Cup 2nd Round Replay at Borough Park, 16 December 1970, priced one shilling. Workington lost their Football League place in 1977 and never returned, which makes surviving programmes from their League days - cup ties especially - genuinely hard to find. A midweek December replay under the Borough Park lights, from a club the League left behind.

FA Cup 3rd Round

£1.50 open to reasonable offers

Workington Reds v Brentford, FA Cup 3rd Round at Borough Park, 2 January 1971. Reaching the 3rd Round was a proper occasion for a Fourth Division club, and this New Year cup tie is one of the stronger fixtures among surviving Workington programmes. The Reds lost their Football League status in 1977, so material from Borough Park's League years is in permanently short supply.

Football League Division Two

£3 open to reasonable offers

Signed Available

Middlesbrough's official programme for the Division Two match against Sheffield United at Ayresome Park, 24 April 1971, with the ball graphic on the front cover filled with handwritten signatures. They appear to be autographs of the 1970-71 Boro squad - names consistent with Jim Platt, Willie Maddren, Stuart Boam and John Hickton can be made out - but the set is unauthenticated, so judge the close-up photographs for yourself.

Football League Division One

£2.50 open to reasonable offers

Available

A genuine oddity: the Anfield Review Special Issue covering Manchester United v Arsenal, Division One, 20 August 1971. United had been ordered to play their first two home games of the season away from Old Trafford following crowd trouble, and staged this fixture at Anfield - so Liverpool's own programme covered a United home win over Arsenal. Photographed with the team-sheet page and an original green match ticket for the same fixture. A curious footnote of football history with appeal to followers of all three clubs.

This is the opening chapter of the 1971-72 campaign that ended with Rangers lifting the Cup Winners' Cup in Barcelona - the club's only European trophy - which gives the whole season's run a special place in any Rangers collection.

Priced 10p, with a diving-goalkeeper action photo on the cover.

Team Check page from a Newcastle United v Leeds United Division One programme, 1975-76, listing two heavyweight line-ups of the era - Macdonald, Gowling and Kennedy for Newcastle; Bremner, Clarke and Jordan for Leeds. FA Cup 5th Round, 2nd Replay

£11.50 open to reasonable offers

Available

A curiosity for collectors of programme oddities: the FA Cup 5th Round 2nd Replay between Bolton Wanderers and Newcastle United, played at a neutral Elland Road on 23 February 1976 after two drawn ties - with the programme carrying Leeds United branding, as Leeds produced it in their role as host club. Neutral-venue replays with the ground owner's cover on someone else's cup tie are a recognised collecting niche, and this is a tidy example of the genre.

Football League Division Two

£2.50 open to reasonable offers

Signed Available

Home and Away matchday booklet for Newcastle United v Grimsby Town, 1977, produced as a tie-in with the 50th anniversary of Newcastle Brown Ale - a neat coincidence of dates, as 1927 was both the year the ale was first brewed and the season Newcastle won their fourth League Championship. A clear autograph in blue ink runs across the top of the cover; the signer is unidentified and the signature unauthenticated, so this is offered as the commemorative booklet with the autograph as a talking point.

Home and Away matchday booklet for Newcastle United v Crystal Palace, 1977, from the same Newcastle Brown Ale 50th-anniversary series as its Grimsby Town companion in this collection - 1927 being the year of both the first brew and Newcastle's fourth League title. A faint pencil or pen mark crosses the top of the cover; it may be an autograph but is too indistinct to attribute, so this is offered simply as the commemorative booklet.

UEFA Cup 1st Round programme for Bohemians v Newcastle United at Dalymount Park, Dublin, 14 September 1977 - a tie that finished 0-0 in the Irish capital. This is the programme from the match where the fairy tale finally ended, and it remains one of the genuinely sought-after non-league issues of the decade, with crossover appeal to Newcastle and Wrexham collectors too.

The Debenhams' Cup Final 1978

£2 open to reasonable offers

Available

Blyth Spartans v Wrexham in the 1978 Debenhams Cup Final at Croft Park, 18 May 1978 - a rematch of the pair's famous FA Cup 5th Round meeting from earlier that season. The Debenhams Cup was a short-lived competition contested by the clubs from outside the top two divisions who had gone furthest in that year's FA Cup, so print runs were small and surviving programmes are scarce. A fitting companion piece to the Blyth cup-run story.
